Writing about the purchase on Reddit, the bargain hunter said they had shelled out just $10 for a desk at a Goodwill store.

It was “an impulse buy,” they added.

The shopper said they had later discovered they were “now a proud accidental owner of a Peter Løvig Nielsen MCM flip-top desk!”

The freestanding teak desk was designed in the late 1960s by Nielsen. His desks are normally advertised online for thousands of dollars.

DANISH DESIGNER

According to Incollect, he was a Danish furniture designer known for his elegant and functional designs.

His “contributions to Danish design helped establish the Scandinavian design movement as a major force in the design world,” it said.

Nielsen trained as a cabinetmaker before studying furniture design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.

It added: “His furniture was characterized by its clean lines, simplicity, and functionality, and he often used natural materials such as wood and leather.

“Nielsen designed a wide range of furniture, including chairs, tables, and storage units, many of which are still produced today.”

“ENVY”

On Reddit, one person wrote of the incredible find: “Oh my God… incandescent with envy.”

Another said: “What an amazing find! for $10??! It’s such a beautiful desk.”

The lucky buyer replied: “I just loved the flip-top nature of the desk and couldn’t beat the price of $10, so my wife and I purchased this, took it apart to ‘fit’ it mostly inside our little hatchback, and drove it home.

“We wanted to try and find out what type of finish this might have to try our hand at restoration, and that’s when we figured out what we had actually just brought home.

“Needless to say, I’m now scared to try anything on this as a complete novice to restoration. Haha.”

The U.S. Sun has also published a story on a sharp-eyed thrifter who found a gadget worth significantly more than he paid.

Elsewhere, a valuable gaming accessory was hiding at a thrift store when a lucky shopper stumbled upon it.

Since secondhand stores are largely stocked by donations, you’re never sure what you’ll find.
