IMPRESSIVE car collections require lots of cash to buy and run, but that isn’t a problem for a royal family.
The Danish royal family might not be the first that comes to mind, but it has a seriously impressive fleet of motors.
The fleet is known collectively as the ‘Crown Cars’ because their number plates all have an image of a crown together with a number against a black plate.
The most prized of all the cars is known as ‘Big Crown’ – a 1958 Rolls-Royce with 140,000kms on the clock.

The royal Roller was built in Britain in Crewe and has been in the family from new. It’s still wheeled out for official engagements.
Also on hand for posh dos are three eight-seat Daimler limousines, one of which is known as ‘Crown 1.’

Its number plate is simply a picture of a crown with a number 1 next to it, all in black. That’s pretty special.
But it isn’t all gas-guzzling classics – the Danish royal family has made an effort to go Green too.
It recently took on a VW ID.3 electric car which is known as ‘Crown 18.’
The royal family’s official website says: ‘the car is ideal for daily driving in Copenhagen and is often used for practical tasks between Amalienborg and Fredensborg Palace.’

Although not fully electric, the family has also bought two plug-in hybrid Audi A8 limos for less traditional official engagements.
In fact, the royal website says: ‘Today, the Royal House has, in all, seven battery-powered and hybrid automobiles.’
It goes on to say the family also has use of ‘a smaller number of limousines, private cars, minibusses, vans, a horse transporter and a small truck.’
